“Let’s heal and grow together. Peace within. Massive Love”
— Lebo Diverse
We stand upon the shoulders of giants. To exist boldly as a Black queer creator in contemporary South Africa is not an accidental triumph—it is the legacy of tireless activists and artists who broke open the cultural lexicon before us. In dedicating this body of work to the movement, we pay deep homage to foundational pioneers like Dr. Bev Ditsie, the first openly lesbian person to address the United Nations on human rights, and Professor Sir Zanele Muholi, whose visual activism has immortalized Black queer excellence worldwide.
Building Sanctuary Beyond Traditional Institutions
Through LM DIVERSE and the global cultural platform of Project SE7EN27, our mission transcends traditional gallery walls and institutional gatekeeping. True sovereignty begins when we create our own institutions—ecosystems where poetry, film, fashion, and performance serve as tools of collective healing rather than commodities.
From the streets of Manchester and cultural hubs in Denmark to the vibrant communities of Kwa-Thema Township and Johannesburg, our work asserts that Black queer narratives are neither western imports nor peripheral subcultures. They are central, sacred, and eternal.
The Three Pillars: Identity, Art, and Freedom from Silence
Our institute is grounded in three immutable pillars: reclaiming Freedom of Identity without apologizing to colonial or heteronormative frameworks; championing Freedom Through Art by bringing spoken word and visual narrative directly into public spaces; and enacting Freedom from Silence—a poetic rebellion that transforms generational trauma into radiant self-definition.
